Event Tips for a sunny weekend: Open air Wipkingen or Hinterhoffest

(Picture: open air Wikpingen)

Sunny, sunnier, sunniest! A great weekend is ahead of us! In order to shorten the waiting time, here our weekend tips:

The open air Wipkingen celebrates it’s thenth birthday this year – all local hipsters and familys, night owls and music admirers have to be there on Saturday and Sunday. To listen to great local bands, dip their feet into the refreshing Limmat, drink a beer and enjoy the summer air. And the best is: free entry.

Another option is the Hinterhoffest at Kreis 5 on Saturday. The shops Lili Tulipan, konrad, Tarzan, Beige and Swallow-d invite you to shop their products or stroll through the flea market in the lovely backyard between Josef- and Konradstrasse.

I’m coming to Zurich soon and I’d like to do lots of shopping, are there any good shops apart from those on Bahnhofstrasse?

Shopping lovers as you, Charlotte, have plenty of choice in Zurich. There are many good shops all over town.

The best and most trendy fashion or accessories shops in town are Nord, Pretty Rad, Soeder, Opia, Waldraud, Making Things, Jo Brauer, Marta and Dings.

Our favourite shops by category: interior design, French fashion, vinyl records, eyewear, shoes and books. These are the nicest flea markets and this is the shopping guide by hopehope with some of our favourite brands listed.

Shopping streets or areas we like: Josefstrasse, Viaduktbögen and Geroldsstrasse, Grüngasse, Zweierstrasse, the Niederdorf- and Oberdorfgasse in the old town and of course the Rennweg and Bahnhofstrasse area for the big chains and exclusive shops.

Places to get a cup of coffee are Kafi Dihei close to Idaplatz, Babu’s or Sprüngli close to Bahnhofstrasse, Si o No at Zweierstrasse, Markthalle at Viaduktbögen and Kafi Schoffel in the old town.

And if you consider having a cocktail after all the shopping is done, read this.

Lycka till med butiken, Soeder*!

Event Tips for this week: Books, clothes or drinks?

We always knew: Zurich is so multifaceted! Our little big home town offers many things to see and do. This week for example, you can decide between books, vintage things or drinks – to name just a few opportunities, of course:

Today starts Zürich liest 13, an international literary festival in Zurich, Winterthur and their surroundings. During the next 4 days, more than 200 writers from Switzerland, Germany, Europe and overseas will present their work in the context of 140 events. Highlights are for example the readings of Franz Hohler, Peter Bichsel, Arno Carmenisch, Federica de Cesco or Donna Leon. Also very interesting sound the poetry slams, the events by Kaffee Kreise and the ones related to Dadaism.
Inform yourself about program and tickets on the website.

If you are more into vintage clothes or objects, visit the Vintage Market at Restaurant Mühlethal on Saturday 26. October, 11am until 6pm.

Last but not least, the Kleine Freiheit ends the outdoor season with a party and a few drinks, music, candles and – in case of bad weather: all of that under a tent. Saturday 26. October after 4pm.
We are already looking forward to the next summer with you, kleine Freiheit!

Yeahhh: The reopening of NORD!

One of our favourite shops – NORD – recently moved into a lovely new space at Badenerstrasse 66, close to Stauffacher.

Do you like stylish shoes, classy leather bags, special scarfs and other accessories? Are you into the timeless design from Sweden, Dennmark or other Scandinavian countrys? Nord is the place for you then!

We know what we talk about saying you could easily spend hours there, trying on shoes and chatting with the friendly owners.

See you there, girls, see you there!

(Psssst boys: this is the perfect place for your girlfriend’s christmas- present!)
